Frequently Asked Questions

Should I attend appointments in person or virtually?

You and your therapist will discuss what is most appropriate for you. Sometimes attending in person enhances the quality of the therapy experience as it provides a distraction-free, neutral space that facilitates talking about distressing topics. In person sessions can also provide opportunities to practice exposure and anxiety tolerance skills if your symptoms are triggered by public situations. Virtual sessions can be more convenient and can increase the consistency of attending sessions. Virtual sessions provide opportunities to practice skills at home with the presence of your therapist.

Where is your office?

We are located at 154 Waterman Street on the east side of Providence, RI. We have a parking lot so you do not need to worry about street parking. Please come in through the Cooke Street entrance. We are located on the first floor in Suite 7, which has a private waiting area.

How do I attend virtual sessions?

Telehealth sessions allow you to attend sessions from your home or another private location. We use a HIPAA-compliant video conferencing platform so that you can have a private video call with your therapist.

Can I log in to my virtual therapy sessions from anywhere?

No, you must be located in a state where your therapist is licensed. Right now, this includes Rhode Island and some other states that are part of PSYPACT. Unfortunately, we are not currently licensed in Massachusetts or New York. You must also be in a private location. See our “Getting Started” page for more information.

Do you accept health insurance?

We are in network for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of RI which includes most BCBS PPO plans. This means that we can bill your insurance directly and you are only responsible for any out-of-pocket costs that your insurance plan does not cover.

We are considered “out of network” for all other commercial insurances.

Does “out of network” (OON) mean that I can’t use my health insurance?

No, many insurance plans have OON coverage. If your plan has OON coverage, then you can get reimbursed anywhere from 30-70% of the cost of services. Many people are surprised to find out that the out of pocket cost for OON is similar to in network copayments.

How do I find out if I have Out-of-network coverage?

You can call your insurance company and ask the following questions:

  • Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
  • How much does my insurance cover for the following visits (using CPT Codes)
    • Initial Evaluation – 90791
    • Psychotherapy 45 minutes – 90834
    • Psychotherapy 55 minutes – 90837
    • Group Psychotherapy – 90853
  • How do I submit a claim for reimbursement?

Can you bill my insurance if it is Out of Network (OON)?

Yes, we provide Courtesy Billing for plans with OON benefits. This means that you will pay our rate at each session, and we will send a claim to your insurance company. A check from the insurance company will be sent to you if a payment is due to you. It is important to check your out-of-network benefits to know what your policy will cover. We will check your out-of-network benefits as well and let you know.

What if I have Medicare?

We have opted out of Medicare and cannot bill Medicare. Medicare does not have out-of-network benefits. This also applies to many private insurance Medicare supplemental plans that require your provider to bill Medicare.

How do I cancel or reschedule an appointment?

You can call our office or use the therapy portal to cancel or reschedule appointments. Our office policy is that all cancellations and reschedules must be 24 hours before the scheduled appointment to avoid a fee. Late cancellations and no show fees are charged to the client and insurance cannot be charged for this fee.
